Volunteers: The Heart of Hospice

Volunteers are the heart of hospice. And, Jim Dowd, our Volunteer Coordinator, is the heart of Zion’s Way’s volunteer program. He has taken Zion’s Way volunteer efforts to a whole new level. Jim says, “Becoming a hospice volunteer can change the way we look at the world. The hospice concept and movement has grown out of the commitment and vision of thousands of volunteers. Our number one goal at Zion’s Way is to elevate the quality of life for families and their loved ones.”

Volunteers provide companionship and support to our patients and their families. They offer an outstretched hand of friendship and companionship to our end of life care patients Volunteers also help our trained and certified staff in the art of our complementary services such as music therapy, art therapy, massage therapy, pet therapy, aroma therapy and therapeutic touch.

Volunteer opportunities are available for patient and non-patient related areas. Some of the non-patient, volunteer opportunities include office work such as filing, computer input, assembling information packets, telephone support and reception work.
