Rehabilitation Care
 

Zion's Way Home Health & Hospice offers a full range of rehabilitation services including physical, occupational, speech, and massage therapy. Services are provided for a variety of diagnoses including orthopedic, cardiac, neurological, and general medical cases. Zion's Way therapists work hard to reduce pain and discomfort, get patients back on their feet as quickly as possible and instill confidence that they will be able to continue on their own thereafter.

Physical Therapy services are provided by licensed Physical Therapists who have been trained in the treatment of patients. Physical Therapy is often beneficial for patients recovering from surgical procedures or other injuries. The goal of physical therapy is to manage pain, rehabilitate patients, and promote a full recovery to the extent that the patient is able. Services include: therapeutic exercise to improve strength, joint range of motion, balance, and fall prevention; transfer training; and general reconditioning.

Occupational Therapy services are provided for conditions in which the upper motor activity is affected and for assistance with activities of daily living. The goal of therapy is to assist the patient to become as independent in their own care as is possible. Our therapists work under the orders of the patient's physician. Services include: instruction and training on dressing, meal preparation, and other activities of daily living; strengthening of upper body; and, assessment and evaluation of fine motor activity and treatment to improve function.

Speech Therapy services are provided by Certified Speech Pathologists who are trained in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders in patients. Services are provided for: swallowing and feeding disorders; cognitive and communication problems secondary to stroke and head injury; voice disorders; and, alternative/augmentative communication methods.

Some aspects of rehabilitation that therapists often address in their care plans may include:

- Therapeutic exercise to improve strength, joint range of motion, balance, endurance and general reconditioning
- Personalized home exercise programs
- Bed mobility and transfer training to allow patients to move about their environment as freely and confidently as possible
- Ordering necessary assistance devices or medical equipment
- Massage to decrease pain, muscle spasm, and/or edema, and improve flexibility
- Education of patients and their families about their diagnosis and prognosis
- Teaching family and caregivers necessary skills so they may better provide for the patient while allowing the patient to remain as independent as possible
- Home safety and fall prevention evaluation
- Instruction on post-surgical or pose-injury pain management techniques
- Various modality applications such as ultrasound, heat packs, and ice packs as appropriate
