No Great Things

By: Susannii, B.S., LPN, LMT

One of my favorite quotes is by Mother Theresa, "We can do no great things, only small things with great love."

In my work at Zion's Way Home Health and Hospice, I am blessed to experience small actions which translate to great love on a daily basis. I am part of an empathetic and compassionate team of professional comforters and healers.

If you were diagnosed with a terminal illness or if you were ill and homebound, wouldn't you love to have a regular massage by a licensed Massage Therapist? Our Massage therapists are especially trained to work under doctor's orders to help decrease pain and discomfort. How about having your nausea or anxiety treated with ginger or lavender aromatherapy? Or if you've felt lonely, we could arrange a visit with a small dog to love and cuddle. We also provide loving and giving volunteers who are specially trained to provide emotional and physical support.

We have nurses and many staff members trained and certified in various energy work modalities. We also employ specialists in Guided Imagery, Light Therapy, Sound healing, Art therapy, Plant therapy and five wonderful musicians who bring music to the bedside. Did you know music has a healing influence on our brain waves? Native Americans have used the Native Flute to calm, soothe and heal for thousands of years. We have musicians who play the Acoustic Guitar, Celtic Harp and the Native Flute. One of our musicians gets to know people, collects positive information about them, writes songs and then sings and records them in his studio. When completed, this special song is given to the patient and their families. All of these comforting services are of no extra charge to our patients. Frequently the primary caregiver of a Hospice or Home Health patient is given a massage on a regular basis in order to decrease caregiver burn-out.

The Alternative and Complementary team at Zion's Way is the only team of its kind in Southern Utah. At Zion's Way Home Health and Hospice compassion and commitment are created with great love.
